In October 2020, Memorial Hospital celebrated serving the community for 70 years. Memorial Hospital is an independent nonprofit Critical Access Hospital governed by a Board of Directors. Memorial Hospital receives no income from local sales or property taxes. Memorial is currently the second-largest employer in Hancock County.


Carthage, founded in 1837, is the county seat of Hancock County and is located in West Central Illinois. The population is 2,490 as of the 2020 census. The historic downtown business district is home to one of the most beautiful courthouses in the state.
